There are many different opinions you will hear when it comes to how often should you post social media updates. It really depends on the size of your business and the size of your competition. Some Ottawa SEO companies will be able to analyze your web presence and determine a proper schedule. Sometimes less is more. Overall, the general rule of thumb is that quality trumps quantity. Social media is used to create a brand and a loyal tribe of followers. It’s about putting out quality content and information that will get people sharing, liking and subscribing to your pages.
The updates also depend on which social media site you are using. If you are using Twitter, you could be posting 1-30 times per day or even more depending on which business you are in. If you are the local news, you might have someone posting every few minutes in order to stay current and be the ‘go to’ person for news and events.
If you are a smaller local business then posting 3 times weekly to Twitter and 2-3 times weekly on Facebook would be fine. If you are in the fashion industry or restaurant industry then using Pinterest to post daily pictures of your products and services would be a great way to spread the word about your business and allow others to share those pictures with their friends.
Make sure the content is relevant. If you are selling shoes, don’t post a random picture of a bird. If you really like the picture of the bird then why not photoshop your shoes on that bird and then post the picture. Be creative with your content and try to be different. It’s getting harder to keep an audiences attention online because everyone is competing for it. You don’t need to swallow a sword or make a $10,000 YouTube video to gain a following. You just need to be smart with the content you are putting out there.
Always try to see from the perspective of your target audience. What types of people are you targeting? What do they like? What are their main questions and concerns? If you can find a way to use your social media to actually help your audience then they will be more likely to remember your brand. Be helpful and be available to your future clients. Be nice and engage them in conversations. Some of the most popular posts are questions. Questions allow you to gauge your audiences thoughts and better your products or services. It also lets them have a voice.
Remember that all social media sites are different. You don’t want to use the same posting rules on Facebook that apply to Twitter, Pinterest or Google+. Take the time to learn about the differences and the strengths that each site has and focus on quality content in oder to grow a loyal following and your business.
